Roy Wu

CSE @ the University of Michigan

Hi! I’m Roy, a senior at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor studying computer science. I first started programming at 14 and I enjoy the many facets of computer science from systems work to machine learning to full stack development.

This website was built for fun using the React framework, Next.js, and showcases many of the projects I have worked on but does not include any of the work I have done during my internships/labs. For that you can check out my CV.

This website also takes heavy inspiration from 032c.

I’m currently working on my senior thesis, which aims to speed up reconstruction workloads for Transformer based architectures.

Waschbär Engine

Waschbär Engine ↗︎

01
A from scratch C++ 2D game engine with a multithreaded double-buffered render pipeline, cache efficient particle system, host side Lua scripting (fully documented), and a cross-platform build across Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
Magic Fighting Simulator

02
An early project I built that reached over 600,000 unique players built in the Roblox Engine. It features and introduced concepts such as client side replication, server validation, handling malicious RPC calls, etc., paving the way early in my studies.
Real-Time Action Recognition

Real-Time Action Recognition ↗︎

03
Trained a GRU recurrent neural network over MoveNet pose estimates that classifies motion in real time and maps it to VR control inputs. Includes everything from collecting data, to preprocessing data, to training the neural network, to a real time inference layer mapped to a socket server.
GSGEDM VOD Streaming Site

GSGEDM VOD Streaming Site

04
A paywalled video-on-demand site built on AWS S3, CloudFront, Next.js, and Stripe, later migrated to Amplify and Mux. This was done with the VOID Tech organization.

CUDA Convolution Operator

05
Direct, im2col + GEMM, fused, and Tensor Core WMMA convolutions for a custom PyTorch convolution operator, benchmarked and tuned in Nsight Compute.

Multithreaded Network File System

06
A concurrent, crash-resistant network file server using reader-writer locks and fine-grained synchronization.

Thread Library

07
Multi-CPU user-level thread library on Unix contexts, with mutexes, condition variables, and FIFO scheduling.

More About Me

I also enjoy weightlifting, music, and movies; feel free to check out my Letterboxd. Lately I've also been into sewing and basketball; my favorite player is Josh Hart.
